Plant growth promoting effect of two strains Pf-2 and Pf-4 of Pseudomonas fluorescens were tested on 10 genetically different cultivars of pea. It was seen that Pf-2 showed a significant plant growth promoting effect and an increase of 119% was recorded with var. Rachna. An increase of dry weights in the range of 69–109% was recorded with other varieties. Pf-4 showed a significant increase of 84% only in dry weight of plants. P. fluorescens strain Pf-2 and its kanamycin resistant mutants Pf-2- K1 and Pf-2- K2) against kanamycin were used. Pseudomonas mutant Pf-2-K2 was resistant to kanamycin at 100 ppm. Mutants Pf-2-K2 were used as marker in field studies.
