Abstract

Among 45 treatments, petroleum ether extract of Margosa seed induced significantly highest cumulative mortality (53.3%) in Callosobruchus maculatus. The ethanol extract of Margosa seed and petroleum ether extract of Margosa leaf were next in order of their effectiveness causing 43.3 to 48.3 % total adult mortality. Egg deposition by C. maculatus was increased in all the plant extracts with the increase after release up to 7 days. It indicated that effectiveness decline in treated seeds with passage of time. The maximum repellency was recorded in petroleum ether extract of Margosa seed at all the intervals under seed treatment and filter paper strip methods.
