Abstract

Effect of organic compounds and synthetic pyrethroids (spring & summer seasons, 2008 & 2009) against Varroa destructor mite revealed that among different treatments used, taufluvalinate (Apistan strips, 2 strips/colony) followed by formic acid 85% @ 35 ml/paper napkins/colony; Thymol @ 0.3 g/comb and oxalic acid 3.5% @ 50ml/colony were found highly effective in suppressing Varroa destructor mite population as compared to control. After six weeks of treatment, there was a mite drop from 9.51 to 15.06 in the above treatments. Thus, reduction in mite drop was from 73.9 to 84.9%.
