Abstract

An investigation was carried out to find out the effects of botanical herbs viz. Polygonum hydropiper, Capsicum chinense, Ricinus communis, Azadirechta indica leaf, A.indica seed kernel and Jatropha curcus against Banandicota bengalensis. The consumption of treated bait by the mated female under no choice condition at post treatment period was lower in case of all the botanicals over the pre treatment consumption. The female rodent kept on A. indica seed kernel treated bait, the lowest consumption of 3.02±0.41 g/100 g bw was recorded at I week after treatment and all the animals died after 7days. The body weight of the rodents kept on A. indica seed kernel was 189.19±1.05 g as compared to initial body weight of 186.73±1.39 g at 1 week after treatment. In control, where female rodents were kept on normal diet, the growth in respect of their body weight as well as consumption of bait(g/100 g bw) was increased gradually over the time.
