Screening of Brinjal genotypes for bacterial wilt in foot hills of Pasighat, Arunachal Pradesh, India

Abstract

The eight parental lines including, one wild species (Solanum gilo) were crossed in half diallel fassion with each other for transfer of disease resistant trait from one variety to another in brinjal. For the screening of thirty six genotypes of brinjal including eight parents and twenty eight F1 hybrids against bacterial wilt disease revealed that, fifteen genotypes were moderately resistant and thirteen genotypes namely (Swarna Pratibha, Solanum gilo, Swarna Pratibha x Pant Rituraj, Swarna Pratibha x Pusa Purple Long, Swarna Pratibha x BR-112, Swarna Pratibha x CHFB-6, Swarna Pratibha x CHFB-7, Pant Rituraj x CHFB-6, Pant Rituraj x CHFB-7, Pant Rituraj x Solanum gilo, BR-112 x CHFB-6, CHFB-6 x CHFB-7 and CHFB-7 x Solanum gilo) were found to be resistant against wilt. These sources of resistance were identified from present investigation and which can be exploited for future breeding programmes for the development of disease resistant commercial cultivars of brinjal through heterosis breeding.
