Biointensive management of fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda infesting maize

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted in kharif-2020 for biointensive management of fall army worm, Spodoptera frugiperda. Two foliar spray applications were applied at fortnight interval. Chlorantaniliprole 18.5 SC @ 0.4 ml/l was found most effective and noted the % plant infestation in the range 5.00–24.17 as against 94.17–98.33 in an untreated control. Emamectin benzoate 5% SG @ 0.4 g/l was next best treatment with 8.33–23.33% infestation. At 10th and 14th day after spray applications, Spfr NPV(NBAIR1) @ 2 ml/l (18.33–19.17% infestation), Beauveria bassiana NBAIR-Bb 45, 0.5% @ 5 g/l (17.50–20.00% infestation), and Pseudomonas fluorescens (Pf DWD 2%) @ 20 g/l (19.17–20.00) were found at par. Chlorantaniliprole 18.5 SC @ 0.4 ml/l recorded 80.36 q/ha maize grain yield as against 59.45 q/ha in an untreated control followed by Emamectin benzoate 5% SG @ 0.4 g/l (79.21 q/ha), Beauveria bassiana NBAIR -Bb 45, 0.5% @ 5 g/l (77.12 q/ha), Spfr NPV (NBAIR1) @ 2 ml/l (75.29 q/ha) and Pseudomonas fluorescens (Pf DWD 2%) @ 20 g/l (74.73 q/ha) and were at par.
