Distributions of rhizome rot of ginger under different agro climatic conditions of Madhya Pradesh

Abstract

During the Kharif of 2021, an intense roving survey was undertaken to assess the rhizome rot of ginger incidence and severity in the different districts of Madhya Pradesh. The average disease incidence varied from 11.34 to 19.48 percent, with disease severity ranging from 20.32 to 35.86 per cent, according to the results of the field study. The fungal pathogens which were found to be associated with rhizome rot of ginger viz. Fusarium oxysporum, Pythium aphanidermatum and Sclerotium rolfsii. Among them association percentage of Pythium aphanidermatum found higher followed by Fusarium oxysporum and Sclerotium rolfsii. Maximum rhizome rot incidence caused by P. aphanidermatum was found in Khargone (19.48%) district, followed by Khandwa and Ratlam, according to the findings. Jabalpur had the lowest rate of incident (11.34%). Similarly, Khargone had the highest disease severity, followed by Khandwa and Ratlam. The district of Jabalpur has the lowest disease severity. Per cent disease incidence was negatively correlated with minimum temperature while positive with rainfall, maximum temperature and relative humidity. Lowest infection of P. aphanidermatum was found in Jabalpur district (11.34%). Khargone (3.25%) district showed higher infection of Sclerotium rolfsii while Jabalpur district showed only 1.57% rhizome infection of Sclerotium rolfsii (lowest).
