Abstract

The present investigation on the seasonal incidence of insect pests in pearl millet was conducted at Research Farm, Agricultural Research Station, Mandor during Kharif 2022. The major insect pests recorded were shoot fly, Atherigona approximata; leaf roller, Marasmia trapezalis; grey weevil, Myllocerus discolor and ear head worm, Helicoverpa armigera. Infestation of A. approximata and M. trapezalis started from the last week of July (30th SMW) while the M. discolor and ear head worm, Helicoverpa armigera infestation started from the third week of July (29th SMW) and last week of August (35th SMW), respectively. The infestation of shoot fly and leaf roller reached to peak in the third week of August (33rd SMW) whereas grey weevil and ear head worm infestation reached to peak in the second week of August (32th SMW) and first week of September (36th SMW), respectively. The leaf roller and grey weevil incidence showed a negative and significant correlation (r = -0.649 and r = -0.764, respectively) with maximum temperature whereas shoot fly and ear head worm showed a non-significant correlation with all the weather parameters.
