Abstract

$Monitoring of airborne fungal spores was carried out inside the library of Standard College, Imphal for two years (January 2007 – December 2008) using Rotorod Air Sampler. Altogether 26 fungal types were identified out of which Aspergilli-Penicilli ranked highest contributing 21.23% of the total population. Known biodeteriogenic and allgergenic fungal types like Cladosporium, Penicillium, Curvularia, Alternaria, Chaetomium, Rhizopus, Cunninghamella, etc. were detected. Quantitative seasonal variation of fungal spores was observed to be influenced by physical and climatic factors in addition to available substrates.
