Abstract

The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), which offers free LPG connections to all BPL households, is a significant step towards social inclusion. The program's objective is to make it more affordable for underprivileged households to use cleaner fuel, reduce air pollution, and improve their health and sanitation. In India, majority of the households still cook with solid fossil fuels, endangering their health and contributing to air pollution. By providing LPG connections, first refills, and stoves at reduced costs to families that are less fortunate economically and socially, the PMUY is assisting in resolving difficulties of availability and affordability of cleaner fuel. This programme promotes the empowerment of women and a vibrant, healthy society. The transition to cleaner fuels could ultimately result in passing on a clean environment to the next generation. PMUY scheme is helping to boost the rural economy by extending the LPG distribution supply chain and creating employment opportunities in the rural sector.
