The ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ initiative represents a transformative vision for India, aiming to elevate the nation to developed status by its centenary of independence. Central to this vision is the Right to Information (RTI) Act, enacted in 2005, which serves as a vital tool for promoting transparency, accountability, and citizen empowerment in governance. This research paper explores the challenges faced in the effective implementation of the RTI Act, including a lack of awareness among citizens, bureaucratic resistance, the digital divide, legal and regulatory barriers, data security concerns, and resource constraints. It further proposes practical solutions to enhance the effectiveness of the RTI Act, such as improving public awareness, simplifying the legal framework, leveraging technology, and fostering collaboration between government bodies and civil society. By addressing these challenges and implementing targeted strategies, the paper argues that the RTI Act can significantly contribute to achieving the goals of the Viksit Bharat vision, ultimately fostering a more transparent, accountable, and participatory governance system that empowers citizens and strengthens democratic institutions.
