Abstract

The study has been carried out in Kohima and Dimapur districts of Nagaland to examine cut flower production and marketing among the women of Nagaland. A sample of 60 flower growers growing 4 selected cut flowers namely Alstroemeria and Rose in Kohima districts and Anthurium and gerbera in Diampur disticts were interviewed using pre-tested questionnaire. All the flower growers were taken to be producing one of the selected cut flowers under poly-house measuring 200m2. The study reveals that among the four selected cut flowers, both production and productivity of Rose per 200m2 per year is highest i.e., 15733.33 stems and 78.67. The highest amount of cut flower stems sold per month is Gerbera, i.e. 1078.87 stems in summer and 1223.33 stems in winter. Anthurium fetch higher price in both the seasons i.e. Rs. 14.5 per stem in summer and Rs. 20 per stem in winter. Highest net income has been received from Alstroemeria i.e. Rs. 91107.44 per year after deducting total cost. Production and marketing of flower has a brighter prospect for women in Nagaland especially for married women and unemployed youths due to increase use of fresh cut flower in every occasion.
