Abstract

Dewas district of Madhya Pradesh contributes 198.75 thousands metric tones of gram which is 4.61 percent of total state production and covers 1.59 lakh hectare area. Keeping in view the importance of Gram, the present study has been conducted during the year 2014–15. The study revealed that the average cost of cultivation i.e. cost ‘C’ of Gram was Rs.33027.61per hectare; the average cost of production per quintal was Rs. 3385.11. Marketing is one of the prime factors, the success of agricultural production dependent upon. The Agricultural Produce marketing Committee (mandi) of Dewas comprise of village merchants, whole seller, retailers between producers and consumers. The total marketing charges paid by the all-marketing functionaries in the Dewas Mandi was Rs. 71.46. The main problems seen in the Mandi i.e. the method of selling of agricultural produce through auction was not appropriate and Mandi staff charges extra amount from the farmers. It was observed from the study that the farmers having larger land holding were using more inputs as compared to farmers of small holdings due to their economic status.
