Abstract

The present study was undertaken to analyze the business practices and constraints of flower growers of Punjab. A sample of 60 flower growers from four flower growing districts of Punjab namely Ludhiana, Patiala, Jalandhar and Fatehgarh Sahib was selected. The findings highlighted that most of the farmers were cultivating flowers for last more than ten years. A large majority of respondent farmers were aware about government schemes to promote floriculture in the state. Majority of the respondents had availed financial assistance from private moneylenders and relatives or friends. Also, majority of the respondents consider government subsidy beneficial for flower cultivation. Lack of skilled labour, insects-pests and diseases, demand and price fluctuations, lack of market information, lack of timely credit availability and too many documents in availing financing facility were reported as major constraints by farmers.
