Abstract

The present status of cattle markets in the state is not orderly and efficient from the view-point of farmer-Seller. Cattle shandies in the study area were unregulated and under the control of local administrative bodies such as Panchayat, Municipality etc. The common practice was to hire out annually the right to collect entry fee to the private contractors. A number of undesirable aspects like higher brokerage, marketing costs and a good deal of cheating in striking the deal are prevalent in most of the markets. None of the cattle shandy in the study areas had basic infrastructural facilities in all respects.
