Sesame is a major edible oilseed crop in India and Tamil Nadu ranked sixth in area and production among the state. It is the most important edible oilseed crop in India and has great economic value for both export and the manufacture of edible oil. As customers have been more interested in natural and healthy ingredients, the popularity of these seeds has considerably expanded in recent years due to product releases. Consumer inclination for functional and health-based organically sourced products drives the industry. The study aims to analyse the trend in area, production, productivity and MSP (Minimum Support Price) and the correlation of MSP with area, production and productivity of sesame in India. Data regarding area, production and productivity was collected from Indiastat and MSP was collected from CACP. The results showed that area had a negative growth while production, productivity and MSP showed a positive trend. Further MSP with production and productivity were positively correlated whereas MSP and area are negatively correlated.
