Millets are staple grain in Indian diets but showed a decline in consumption due to the rising preference for rice and wheat. This study analyzes the growth trends, socio-economic factors and challenges related to millet promotion in Gujarat using primary and secondary data. Results show a negative growth in area and production, but an increase in productivity, possibly due to better farming practices. Chi-square analysis revealed that residence, age, income, family size and health awareness significantly influenced millet consumption. In contrast, education and occupation had limited impact. Major challenges include preference for other grains, low awareness and taste issues. Targeted awareness programs and taste improvements are essential for reviving millet consumption.
