Integrated Electronic Warehouse Receipt System - Concept and its Elements

A comprehensive Electronic Negotiable Warehouse Receipt (eNWR) system covering electronic platform and provisions for participation of different agencies and players like warehouse executive, assaying agents, financial institutions and depositors is emerging in India. An attempt is made in this paper to evaluate the system which is looking to have all necessary elements of a wellfunctioning warehouse receipt system. The system has made a reasonable progress in terms of quantity deposited and finance made available against it. The acceptance of the system can be improved and higher growth ensured by creating awareness among different stakeholders and addressing challenges related to technology based glitches, availability of limited users and perceived workload. Participation of farmers’ organizations has the potential to provide sustainability to the concept.
