In the present study an attempt has been made to examine the seasonality in arrivals and prices of major millets in India viz. sorghum and pearl millet. The monthly wholesale prices and arrivals data prevailing in the major four markets for each respective crop were collected for a period of 20 years (2005 to 2024). The seasonal price behaviour was analysed to capture intra-year price fluctuations and to identify seasonal trends. The empirical findings revealed noticeable seasonal price behaviour and variability in bajra and jowar markets across the selected regions. The degree of seasonal fluctuation was recorded higher in jowar compared to bajra. Seasonal indices of arrivals and prices showed that prices generally moved inversely to arrivals, with higher prices observed during lean supply months. The outcome of the analysis indicated the influence of supply seasonality on price movements, highlighting the need for appropriate strategies to ensure better price realisation for farmers.
