Abstract

L. rohita is an important alimentary fish in India and also major constituent of human diet. Genetic information linked to the testicular development of L. rohita could contribute towards understanding and improving breeding efficiency. In the present study we annotated 1317 Expressed Sequence Tags (EST) of L. rohita. Sequences of ESTs were retrieved from dbEST. The reterived ESTs sequences have been curated. The curated sequence has been assembled so we obtained 163 Contigs and 869 Singlets. The assembled sequences were annotated. In the annotation process similarity search was done to identify the similar proteins. The similarity search was carried out towards Simple Sequence Repeats (SSRs) were predicted for diversity studies. Specific primers were designed for SSRs markers. Finally, Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNP) prediction was done to predict the presence of SNPs in Contigs. This study provides a large body of information on EST-SSRs and SNP that can be useful for the development of polymorphic markers, gene mapping, and comparative genome analysis.
