Impact of frontline demonstration on French bean variety Arka Komal in West Kameng, Arunachal Pradesh

French bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is the most important leguminous vegetable crops, known for its short duration and nutritive values in addition to improving the soil fertility and suitability for intercropping. The efforts have been made to conduct front line demonstrations FLD) and dissemination of pertinent knowledge to French bean growers about improved technologies (Arka Komal). The present study ascertained the impact of FLD conducted by Krishi Vigyana Kendra (KVK), West Kameng district of of Arunachal Pradesh on French bean variety Arka Komal. It is a photo-insensitive, stingless high yielding variety suitable for irrigated conditions. Total of 15 FLDs conducted in 15 farmers field covering an area of 3.0 ha during 2023–25. The results indicated a marked difference between Arka Komal and local variety, being adopted by farming community. Arka Komal comes to harvest earlier than local variety. The duration to first harvest in case of Arka Komal was observed 50–55 days after sowing, while it was 60 -days in case of local variety. In terms of number of harvest, it was more in case of Arka Komal compared to control. The time interval between successive harvests was 8-days in case of Arka Komal and 10-days in case of local variety. In terms of pod weight, farmers expressed that pod weight was 36% higher in case of Arka Komal compared to local variety. The profitability in terms of B:C ratio was 3.0 in case of Arka Komal as compared to 1.6 in case of local. The significant achievement of FLD was the magnitude of technology dissemination, evident from expansion in an area of 175 ha in 2023–24 and180 ha in 2024–25. These FLDS advocated the large scale adoption of Arka Komal, French bean variety in Arunachal Pradesh.
