Abstract

Among the spices grown in India, garlic (Allium sativum L.) is undoubtedly one of the important crops after onion and propagated vegetatively and has good export potential as fresh bulb as well as in the form of dehydrated product. It is used as spices, flavor agent and in pharmaceutical preparation due to its high valid medicinal properties like antimicrobial, anti-diabetic and anti-carcinogenic action. Garlic Agrifound Parvati-2 (G-408) is a new variety of NHRDF, developed for mid and higher hills and popular among farmers for higher yield with better adaptability. The variety is a long day type and recommended for cultivation in zone-I (Jammu Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh) as Agrifound Parvati-2. The variety Agrifound Parvati-2 was tested at different locations and gave highest average yield (151.56 q/ha), which is 165.34%, 81.34% 82.65% and 56.41% higher than the checks variety G-41, G-282, G-189 and VL Garlic-1, respectively.
