Abstract

-In the present study, laser welding of two dissimilar metals of copper and stainless steel (304 Grade) were joined by lap joint welding. The relationship produced to calculate weld quality of the laser beam welding of two different metals by welding parameters like laser power, thickness of material and beam diameter. The analysis of laser welding operation was done for the various combination of welding process parameters. The Taguchi's L9 orthogonal array was utilized to perform the experiments for measuring the effect of welding process parameters on determining responses. From the experimental results, it is noticed that as laser power goes on increasing weld strength increases and similarly from thickness size 0.4 to 0.6 mm weld strength goes on increasing. The maximum weld strength of 311 N was obtained at power 70% and thickness 0.6 mm which are highest values of process parameters.
