Genetic polymorphism of red cell phosphoglucomutase (PGM₁) subtypes in Gujarat population

The analysis of Phosphoglucomutase (PGM₁) subtypes red cells carried out by Isoelectric Focusing on Ultathin layer polyacrylamide gel. The distribution pattern of PGM₁ subtypes was investigated in Gujarat population. Total 298 blood samples were analysed. Nine out of ten variants were observed. The calculated frequencies of genes PGM¹⁺₁, PGM¹⁻₁, PGM²⁺₁ and PGM²⁻₁ were 015872, 0.1275, 0.2130 and 0.0721 respectively. Considering Hardy - Weinberg equilibrium, the observed values of PGM₁ phenotypes were round to be in agreement with that of expected values.
