Abstract

Toxicity tests are conducted to evaluate the nature and degree of harmful effects of a chemical substance. The studies are designed to obtain as much information as possible so that the toxic effects are predicted. The nature of each test is determined by the intended use of the chemical to be studied. The various types of tests done in the laboratory animals to evaluate the toxic potential of a chemical substance are discussed.
