The age incidence of union of epiphyses around the elbow, wrist, knee joints and pelvis, was roentgenographically investigated in 200 cases, comprising 96 boys and 104 girls, in the age group of 16 to 22 years. Only the cases belonging to native population of North-Eastern region of India were included in the study. At the elbow joint, complete epiphyseal union took place at the age 16 years in both girls and boys. At the wrist joint, complete epiphyseal union took place at the age of 18 years and 19 years in girls and boys respectively. Epiphyses around the knee joint showed complete union at the age 17 years in both girls and boys. At the pelvis, complete epiphyseal union is seen at the age of 22 years and 21 years in boys and girls respectively. Regression formula with the standard errors was derived for the respective joints. The Y-values predicted by the Regression equation may not be valid if they are outside the range of the Y-values used to determine the equation. The present study establishes a reference population for the determination of age of individuals by skeletal age estimation for the people of North-Eastern region of India.
