Diesel Poisoning: Ignorance Results in Death

Hydrocarbompoisoning is common in children especially in rural areas. Accidental ingestion ofdiesel andkerosene is very common^I. The following is a case report ofa two year old child, who ingesteddieselfrom a container and also soiled the body surface. The parents panicked and induced vomiting. They took the childto aprivate hospital where gastric lavage was done. The child died due to aspiration pneumonitis possibly as a result ofinduced vomiting and gastric lavage.
