Abstract

Teeth provide the excellent material in populations for anthropological, genetic, odontologic and forensic investigations. Their morphometry is known to be influenced by cultural, environmental and racialfoctors. The dental characteristics are studied on 125 skulls obtained from Department of Anatomy, Sri Guru Ram Das Institute ofMedical Sciences and Research, Amritsar. Mesiodistal crown diameters of permanent teeth are as follows-central incisors-(8.43mm), lateral incisors (657mm), canines (7. 46mm), first maxillary molars (lO.03mm), second maxillary molars (9. 05mm), first mandibular molars (lO.23mm) and the second mandibular molars (9.12 mm). The frequency of shovel shaped incisors is 33.90% and carabelli's cusp is 13.72%.
