Understanding The Problem of Undescended Testes With A Case Report

Cryptorchidism is the foilure of one or both testes to descend into the scrotal sac and is the most frequent congenital birth defect in male children. Although the mechanism that regulates prenatal testicular descent is still partly obscure, there is persuasive evidence that endocrine, genetic, and environmental foctors are involved. In addition, postnatal ascent of the testes can lead to acquired cryptorchidism. Very variable figures on the incidence of cryptorchidism have been described in different type of studies. Although the cause for testicular maldescent remains unknown in most cases, several pathogenetic mechanisms for cryptorchidism have been described. Delayed diagnosis of undescended testes is a major problem. A case of 30 yrs old male with bilateral undescended testes with delayed secondary sexual characters is described here alongwith a briefdescription about the medicolegal aspects of this condition.
