Abstract

To investigate the epidemiological characteristics of midfacial.fractures and associated fractures in patients seen in the Oral and maxillofacial Surgery Department of CSM Medical university Lucknow India. A Two years and nine-month retrospective study was conducted. Data collected ineluded socio-demographic factors, type and etiology of injury, additional fractures, and post-surgery complications. Seven hundred twenty nine (729) cases ranging from 1–79 yrs of age were reported, with a male: flmafe ratio of 8:1. The 21–30 yr age group was the largest, comprising 37.9% of cases (n=276). Road traffic accidents contributed to 95.5%(n=696) of the fractures. Among the associated fractures the flmur was most affected. A total of 208 (28.53%) of patients had post-operative complications, of which inflction accounted for 44.23% (n= 92), and maloc-clusion accountedfor 17.7% (n =37). Anticipated changes in maxillofacial trauma trends necessitate regular epidemiologic studies of facial fractures to allow for development and implementation of timely novel preventive measures.
