Pesticide is any substance or mixture of substances intended for preventing, destroying or controlling any pest, including vectors o/human. In forensic autopsy case, the forensic pathologist may require a complete toxicological investigation for pesticides and other compounds. In India, this is usually carriedout by Forensic Science Laboratories run by government under the Home ministry. The samples have to beanalyzed by the forensic toxicologist. This article deals with the screening test or colour test for common group pesticides such as Organophosphorous, Organochloro, Carbamates and Pyrethroids as wellas some individual pesticides such as parathion, malathion, mevinphos, sumithion, DD. v.P, cloftnotane, diazinon, dimethoate, D.D. T, endrin, B.H C, lindane methoxychlor, aldrin phosphine etc. An attempt has been made to simplify the standardprocedures in a step-wise manner, which can be a/handy referencefor theforensic toxicologist/scientists.
