Pitiable and horrendous quality of medical examination of rape victims in Wardha district (MH)

One of the most heinous crimes in the present society is rape. Sexual assault is tragedy to womankind. The alarming rise in the rate of sexual assault worldwide represents a major public heallh problem. An earllynd detailed medical examination is of vital importance for the purpose of investigation and to prevent the loss of vital trace evidence. Lack of definite evidence is responsible to a large extent for low conviction rate in such offences. The present study highlights the present pattern of examination of rape victim and accused and aims to find out the various lacunae in the Forensic Medical Examination of rape casess To assess the objective of the present study, the requisition letter of the police, medical reports and chemical analysis reports of rape cases oves the last three were analyzed The study report of 258 pages was forwarded to various governmental agencies. Recently a Public Interest Litigation has been filed on this study report by Social Workers and Lawyers to give appropriate directions to government to improve the present condition.
