Abstract

A community based study on the time of eruption of permanent 3rd molar teeth to establish the age of an individual was undertaken on 200 subjects of Libyan origin in the age group of 15–25 yrs. Correlation between the chronological age and eruption time of individual was calculated in both the jaws. Eruption time was found earlier in female in the year of 16 to 17 year and one year later in male and completed by 24years. The eruption is also earlier in lower jaw as compared to upper jaw in both the sexes. Spaces for third molar also appear earliest in female at the age of 15years. In the earlier ages it appears in lower jaw in both the sexes but get reverse as the age progresses.

Teeth eruption is an independent process, unrelated to other anthropometric measurements. There exists a co-relation between the third molar eruptions with chronological age.
