Traumatic rupture of ascending aorta in road traffic accident: A case report and review of literature

Abstract

We herein report a case of an adult male, while riding a cycle-rickshaw sustained blunt trauma to the chest after being hit by a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) from the rear side. He died on the spot and brought by police to the mortuary for postmortem. At autopsy, completetran section of the ascending aorta was found associated with blunt external injuries to the chest wall Aortic injury can result following blunt or sharp impact mostly described in motor vehicle occupants. The mechanism of injury and literature regarding this condition are discussed in this article.
