Jatropha curcas is an irritant plant, which is commonly grown in many parts of the World including India, as its oil is useful in the manufacture of biofuel candles and soap. Furthermore, it is easy to cultivate. Accidental poisoning with Jatropha is commonly seen among children who may bite on the fruits because of its attractive appearance with sweet flavored taste. The diagnosis and management of Jatropha curcas is not difficult and the mortality is also less. However, there is ageneral lack of awareness among many medical professionals and layman about its potential toxicity. In this paper a nonfatal case of accidental Jatropha poisoning in children is reported together with discussion on the importance of plant pertaining to its toxicity.
