Diphenhydramine hydrochloride (DPHHj is a first generation antihistamine mainly used to treat allergies. It is a common ingredient in most of the cold remedies like Benadryl and now-a -days posing emerging threat as a suicidal and homicidal agent. In the last decade, the abuse and recreational use of DPHH has increased dramatically. In India. DPHH is widely used in criminal activities i. e. stealing in trains, sexual abusing, suicide and homicide because of its sedative effect. In the present work rapid qualitative and quantitative methods are adopted to determine DPHH in simulated crime exhibits like drinking water bottles, canes of tea and alcohol using colour test, TLC6 & UV spectroscopy.
