Legal implications of chemical profiling of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances

Now a day the drug related crimes are decided by the courts only on the basis of the quantity of the banned drug present in the diluted or adulterated samples. Intoxicating or harmful adulterants and diluents are completely ignored. Criminal goes scot-free by keeping the quantity of the banned drug low in their preparation. The drug effect is either maintained or enhanced by mixing diluents and adulterants. True story can only be revealed through the complete analysis of the seized samples for the main drug as well as for the adulterants and diluents. Analytical data of the samples in the present study brings forth an entirely different truth. Awareness of the significance of the analytical data will provide a better tool to fight the drug problem. Availability of all such analytical results in a data bank at the national level will help the law making and enforcement agencies to make better plans and policies to deal with the drug menace.
