Abstract

Calculating stature from bones is an important element of forensic anthropology. In the present study the height (S) of 57 males and 73 females were measured along with their percutaneous ulna length (U). The mean height for north Indian males was 174.486±7.259 cm and for females 161.434±7.614 cm. The mean percutaneous ulna length was 27.293±3.727 cm for males and 25.297±2.565 cm for females. For estimation of height for both sexes from the percutaneous ulna length a simple regression equation formula was derived for males (S = 0.8264U + 151.93) and females (S = 1.2263U + 130.41). The estimated height so found was accepted within a range of an error and were in close approximation with that of the observed height. The present study fairly accurately within a standard error of estimate which is acceptable in determining the height of a known population.
