Total 25 Hookah bar samples from different regions of Ahmedabad were analyzed by simple color tests (chemical tests) for the presence of nicotine and other NDPA drugs like ethanol, heroin, morphine, cannabis and amphetamine apart from its basic ingredients like sugar and glycerin. The result indicated the presence of sugar, glycerin and nicotine in all the 25 samples. Only four samples indicated the presence of ethanol and in the rest of the samples it was absent. Among the NDPS drugs tested Cannabis was absent in the samples. 20 samples have shown the presence of amphetamine and two samples have shown the presence of morphine and heroin. The NDPS drugs found positive have to be confirmed by other instrumental techniques.
