A modern hospital is multidisciplinary system which consumes several items for delivery of medical care. All these products leave some unusable leftover i.e. hospital waste. Inadequate Biomedical waste management can cause environmental pollution, growth and multiplication of vectors, leads to outbreak of diseases and transmission of diseases. An adequate knowledge, positive attitude and healthy practices among health care workers are real need for proper management of biomedical waste.
(a) To find out awareness about Biomedical waste management rules.(b)To assess attitude of all categories of health care workers towards biomedical waste management.(c) training undertaken (d) practices regarding segregation, use of colour coding, injury reporting, sharps management, access to common waste management facilities and disposal.
A cross sectional study was conducted in medical college and hospital, multispecialty hospital, private nursing homes, pharmacy, laboratories. Pretested and predetermined questionnaire used for survey.
Analysis was done using SPSS (version 16)
There is gap in knowledge regarding biomedical waste in all categories. Attitude of sanitary staff is unfavorable. Nurses have favorable attitude and practices as compare to other categories. There is necessity of intense training with periodic follow up for all categories of health workers.
