Pesticide Poisoning-Killing Insects or Poisoning Individuals; An Indian Perspective

Insects, pests and likes are poisoned and killed with pesticides, which is very common practice in agricultural sector as well as in health care industries to protect crops, animals and humans from various diseases. Since development of pesticides, their use has been greatly increased and reached at its dangerous level that contaminated every strata of the environment. As humans are very susceptible in nature, they easily get affected by these pesticides and likely suffer from their toxic effects. In today's world, pesticide poisoning is one of the major problems and a known cause of human morbidity and mortality. It is estimated that about 99% of the population particularly in developing nations is at a great risk of poisoning due to the toxicity of these pesticides. India is third largest consumer of pesticides in the world and single largest in south Asia. As a result of this, high usage of pesticides is responsible for huge number of poisoning cases in India till date. This short communication has been prepared to emphasize the pesticide usage and the related incidences of poisoning including the deaths caused. Accordingly due to the facts and circumstances Pesticide use should be strictly regulated in India as it is being regulated in developed nations.
