Profile study of fatal poisoning cases brought for postmortem examination at government Kilpauk Medical College

This is an observational retrospective study of 58 fatal poisoning cases at one of the medical colleges of Chennai, Tamil Nadu in a span of one year. It constituted 40 males and 18 females. Majority 39 person belonged to age group of 20 to 50 years, maximum number of cases (19) belonged to age group 40–50 years. It had 17 cases of domestic poison material, 26 cases belonged to agriculture poisons, 7 cases of drugs and medicines and 2 cases of food poisoning. It had 54 suicidal cases and 4 were classified as accidental poisoning deaths. The underlying causes of suicide were debt, family fight, chronic diseases, psychiatric, accidental, and alcoholic.
