Examination of clothings in injuries – An unshakable evidence: A case report

The present case reveals the importance of examination of clothings in arriving at proper medicolegal conclusions. Autopsy conducted on a dead body of a male brought to M. Y. Hospital, Indore, revealed an antemortem stab wound in the abdomen leading to a pool of blood about two litres in the cavity. The clothings worn by the victim had no sharp cut corresponding to the stab wound but it was having a small patch of blood stain localized to the injured area. The stomach findings were suggestive of poisoning also. Since there was no smudging, spurting or flow mark of blood on the body of the victim at the time and after sustaining the stab injury and also the succession of events and finally the nature of his death, which in absence of examination of clothings and corroboration of it findings would not have been possible.
