Racial identification of head shape by the cephalic index in the malaysian population in section 13 Shah Alam Malaysia

Abstract

Craniometry is the scientific technique of measuring the bones of skull; where it plays an important role in forensic practice in characterization of races. This study was carried out to determine the head shape among the Malaysian population at Section 13 ShahAlam, Selangor, Malaysia by calculation of the cephalic index in 242 participants from the three main different races in Malaysia (Malay, Chinese and Indian). The dominant type of head shape in Malay was mesocephalic (40%), Chinese were hyperbrachycephalic (31.25%), while the Indian showed 31.25% brachycephalic and 31.25% hyperbrachycephalic.
