In their various forms, traditional anti-diarrheal medicine are used all over Malaysia. Chi Kit Teck Aun pills are little round pills seen in almost every shop and are widely regarded as the cure-all medicine. This research aimed to determine the harmful effects of sub-acute exposure of traditional antidiarrheal medicine namely Chi Kit Teck Aun in kidneys and behavioural changes ofSprague Dawley rats. Fifteen male Sprague Dawley rats were used in this research and were divided into 3 groups (n=5) and were dosed and observed, for 28-days. Group A (Control) was fed pellet and water, Group B was fed pellet, water and the drug with normal dosage, Group C was fed pellet, water and the drug with double dosage. Hand grip strength test was conducted in week-4. On day-29, the rats in Groups A-C were necropsied. One-way ANOVA and Tukey's post hoc test indicated there is significant difference in the handgrip test (p<0.05), postulating that the muscle strength of the rats may have become weak Traditional antidiarrheal medicine show potential toxicity when abused as addictive drug.
