Forensic subsoil profile investigation in Taman Rakyat Recreation Park, Klang, Selangor, Malaysia

Abstract

Soil analysis has immense applications in various fields like agriculture, forensic science and so on. Soil forensics is the study of soil that uses of a wide range of soil information to answer legal questions or problems. Soil is a trace and transferable physical evidence, used to like the crime and criminal. As soil particles can readily adhere to, and transfer from, items such as clothing, shoes, vehicles and took, they have the potential to be used as trace evidence, potentially linking or eliminating suspects to and from a crime scene. In current murder crime scenarios, the murderers commit the crime in a place and subsequently transport the dead body and bury with the intent to conceal the dead body and identity. Hence the present study was aimed to investigate the subsoil profile in “Taman Rakyat Recreation Park” in Klang state, Malaysia. In this study area, five points were chosen and collected each 500g sub soil samples in 3 depths viz. foot, l foot, 1½ feet and a top soil from each point. Density gradient tube technique was used in this research, in addition to visual and stereomicroscopic examination for soil comparison. The density gradient column was prepared by using bromoform (d = 2.87 g/mL) and bromobenzene (d=1.49 g/mL). The finding of this research indicated discrimination in the soils collected in different points and depths even within the same area.
