The phenotypic characteristics of human hairs are assessed by observing the microscopic anatomy of a hair and estimating the body area and racial characteristics. The present study was aimed to investigate the hair morphological characteristics among three indigenous ethnic groups viz. Iban, Bidayuh and Melanau, in Malaysian Borneo Island. The study sample consists of 90 consented subjects, 30 from each ethnic group. Hair samples were collected following the standard procedure and examined the hair morphology and recorded the findings. The data were analysed statistically. The investigation has provided positive information that may be applied in real crime scene work.
