Abstract

Sex Determination from Mastoid triangle Parameters like PA, AM, PM, Right and mastoid triangle area and total area.

This study was conducted during the period of January 2012 to August 2013 at Department of Forensic Medicine, P.D.U. Govt. Medical College & Hospital, Rajkot. 100 Cases of 20 years and above has been selected for sex determination from mastoid triangle.

Mean of Right side PA, AM and PM for male is 51.78 mm, 53.51 mm and 31.12 mm respectively, while for female it is 42.70 mm, 45.38 mm and 28.27 mm respectively. Mean of Left side PA, AM and PM for male is 47.77 mm, 52.05 mm and 31.76 mm respectively, while for female it is 43.51 mm, 44.11 mm and 28.46 mm respectively. Mean of RMA, LMA and Total Area for male is 780.44 mm2, 747.95 mm2 and 1508.47 mm2 respectively, while for female it is 593.79 mm2, 591.08 mm2 and 1184.87 mm2 respectively. Values of the total area that were greater than or equal to 1508.47 mm2 belonged to male crania. Values for the total area that were less than or equal to 1184.87 mm2 belonged to female crania.

Highest overall accuracy is of Right PA (80%) followed by Left AM (79%), Right AM (76%), RMA (66%), Left PA (65%), Total area (64%), LMA (61%), Right PM (60%) and lowest overall accuracy is of Left PM (57%).
