Abstract

Identification is the determination of individuality of a person. Personal Identification is an important step in solving any criminal or civil case. The ‘big fours’ of personal identification are determination of age, sex, stature and ethnicity. These form the features of ‘tentative identification’. Finger prints, Post mortem reports, and of late, DNA finger printing have been successful in personal identification in the field of forensic science. Just like these methods, lip prints can be instrumental in identifying a person positively and can be used to verify the presence or absence of a person at the scene of crime. The lip prints of 200 randomly selected students were taken of which 100 are males and 100 females. The study was conducted during the period from July 2018 to September 2018. This study shows that lip prints are unique to an individual and behold the potential for recognition of the sex of an individual.
