Intramuscular injection leading to septicemia is one of the rare complications that may lead to death if left untreated. The risk increases in cases of self administered injections as proper precautions are not taken and also due to faulty technique. Especially in developing countries where medical facilities are still out of reach of a majority of population. In addition due to low literacy people approach the medical intervention in advanced stages of the disease thereby increasing the morbidity. We came across such a case where the deceased being suffering from chronic backache started self administeringi.m. injections which eventually lead to abscess formation and further development of septicemia leading to his death.
